BLM ANTENATAL CARE SERVICE
  Introduction

Banja LA Mtsogolo (BLM) is a leading Malawian reproductive healthcare Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) set up with a view towards improving the Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) of all Malawians especially the vulnerable and under served.

As part of its Integrated Sexual Reproductive Health Programme (ISRHP), BLM has introduced Antenatal Care Services (ANC) in order to contribute to the reduction of maternal mortality rate in Malawi, this currently is estimated to be 1,120 per 100,000 live births.

  Aim

BLM's ANC services aim at providing medical support to a pregnant woman and her unborn baby from conception to onset of labour by:

Providing high quality, evidence based antenatal care.

Increasing a woman's awareness and her family on birth preparedness and possible complications that could arise.

  Focus
Banja La Mtsogolo is registered under the Trustees Act of Malawi and has a fully incorporated Board of Trustees which is responsible for policy direction.

A management team is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the organization.

A multi-disciplinary team comprised of professionals from different fields provides support to run the organization.
  Approach

BLM is moving away from the more regular risk screening ANC visits to adopting a scientifically proven method of fewer visits focusing on provision of high quality care.
