Blm opens new Youth Drop in Centre
Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) has opened a new Youth Drop-in Centre in Karonga in the northern region of Malawi. The centre which is the first in the region was officially launched on 27th January, 2007 by the Minister of Youth Sports and Culture, Hon Jafali Mussa MP. The Youth Drop -in Centre is an initiative by BLM to ensure that the youth, aged between 10 to 24, have equal opportunity to access SRH information and services as well as HIV/AIDS counseling. NAC Partners with BLM in HIV Counselling and Testing (HCT)
According to the statistics from the National AIDS Commission (NAC), Malawi is one of the countries worst hit by the HIV/AIDS epidemic with an infection rate among the child-bearing age group of 14.4%. Worse still 46% of new HIV infections occur among the youth aged 15-24 with 60% of them occurring among girls.

BLM National Youth Coordinator, Brandina Kambala, said that the youth project which is targeting the hard-to-reach young people aged between 10-24 in 7 districts of Malawi is expected to address an array of social and SRH problems that include early, unintended pregnancies, STIs and HIV/AIDS, disrupted education and reduced employment opportunities amongst others.
