Govt applauds BLM for free services to rural communities
Government has urged Malawians to take advantage of the free services offered by Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) in rural communities to ensure that they only have children they can easily support.
BLM offers sexual and reproductive health (SRH) and family planning services across the nation.
Speaking during a BLM sensitisation function at Mzokoto in Rumphi last Thursday, PS for OPC responsible for Nutrition and HIV/Aids Mary Shawa said it was imperative that Malawians plan their families to ensure maximum care of children.
"Let me ask you men to give your wives a breather and not just impregnate them every year. If the women are not pregnant frequently, they have ample time to develop and plan other things that can enhance happiness in the family," she said.
Shawa said family planning was very important because it eases the burden that goes with caring for a new baby every year.
"As a couple, you will also have time to chat and plan together, relax and live as a happy family. When you bear children every year, the women would only be busy with the babies and that can have serious problems on your closeness," said Shawa, hailing BLM for providing free family planning services to rural communities in the country.
