MEDICAL LABORATORY SERVICES
  Introduction
Banja La Mtsogolo (BLM) is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) working in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) information and care.BLM was established in 1987 with funding and technical support from Marie Stopes international (MSI).

The objective of BLM is to improve the reproductive health of poor women, men and the youth of reproductive age in both urban and rural areas of the country.

Presently, BLM has a network of thirty (30) centres spread across the country. These centres offer family planning services, under-five care services, management of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and treatment of minor ailments.

To support this initiative, BLM has introduced medical laboratory services with the view of improving client management. This is in line with BLM's objective of complementing government's efforts in improving healthcare services to all.
  Why are Laboratory Investigations Necessary?

Laboratory investigations are necessary for the following reasons among others:

• To confirm diagnosis
• To help client management
• Disease control e.g. food handlers etc
• Help to arrive at the most appropriate treatment where drug resistance has been observed.
  Who Should Come for Laboratory Investigations?
BLM laboratory services are available to all including referrals from other:
• Private Clinics
• Laboratories
• Food handling / processing companies
  Services Available

The following services are on offer:Blood for tests for example:

• Haemoglobin
• White-blood cell count
• Differential
• Malaria parasites
OTHERS:
• Urine for full report
• Stool for full report
• Seen analysis
• Pregnancy test
• Typhoid (Widal)
• VDRL (Syphilis)
• Gram Stain and Wet mount
• Trichomonas and Candida
•

Chemistry and HIV tests will follow soon
   
  Charges
Our charges are the most competitive and affordable prevalent in all BLM establishment.
  Location
Currently BLM has three laboratories located at its Head Offices in Ginnery Corner Blantyre Mzuzu and Zomba BLM Centre. Further establishments will follow soon.
Opening Hours
BLM laboratories are open Mondays to Fridays from 08:00hrs to 16:30hrs and remain closed on weekends and public holidays.
